Samina Talat (Founder)

Samina Talat has over 17 years of international and local experience across a variety of health sectors. Samina received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Education & a Masters of Science in Psychology from Pakistan. After completing her education she worked in the acute and community health sectors, across rural and urban Pakistan, prior to immigrating with her family to Canada in 1998.

In her initial years of settlement in Canada, Samina worked and volunteered in the community and social sectors. Upon completion of a 3-year term at Victorian Order of Nurses, Samina pursued a Masters of Health Sciences in Health Administration from the University of Toronto. Thereafter she achieved the designation of a Certified Health Executive from the Canadian College for Health Services Executives. She subsequently completed a Diplomas in Advanced Health Leadership from the Rotman School of Management-University of Toronto and Clinical Services Management from Schulich School of Business-York University.

Samina is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Aurat Health Services. Her healthcare journey across the Greater Toronto Area has led her through acute, community and systems level experiences. She offers very valuable and critical perspectives on issues concerning community care, health care access and service delivery for diverse communities, specifically South Asian women. In 2009 she resigned from her position with Central West Local Health Integration Network in an effort to start an organization that addresses these needs, and dedicated her efforts to the establishment of Aurat Health Services - an organization that strives to empower South Asian women by providing the best possible health, social and community information, resources and services.
